If you’re an aspiring DJ, you’ve no doubt heard about Numark and Pioneer; two leading brands in quality audio equipment and modern DJ controllers. It should be no surprise then that these two leading companies have produced what are possibly the most cutting edge DJ controllers to date: the Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 and the Pioneer DDJ SB2. So, which one should you choose? Which one of these controllers will provide the most intuitive touch controls and hands-on fun? (see also : Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 Vs Pro 3).
The Numark controller is immediately attractive to DJs because it includes six sample packs of loops, drum kits, one-shot sounds and other premium content from the well-known Prime Loops. This alone represents a $200 value and will fill out any aspiring DJs remix toolkit. The Numark’s plug and play out of the box operation is a delight, and the entire package offers exactly what you’d expect at this pricepoint, including Serato software control, smooth pitch controllers for syncing beats, and a backlit strip of pads that provides quick and easy access to samples and audio FX during a performance.
The Pioneer controller is also plug_and_play, and features a very similar DJ friendly design. If you like a real hands-on tactile experience during performance, the Pioneer features extra-large low latency jog wheels that provide unparalleled accuracy and scratch response. Low and High Pass filter dials on each channels will provide the DJ with some creative mixing options and the performance pads provide super quick access to Cue and Loop functions, Sample playback, and Play and Sync functions.

Decision
The battle between the Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 and the Pioneer DDJ SB2 is a tough one, as both units are attractive and full featured. The Numark is hard to pass on because of the included remix package of audio loops and samples. Likewise, the Pioneer offers a great deal of tactile control due to its extra-large jog wheels. I would suggest that both units are attractive buys depending on your needs.
