Tascam DR-05 is a handheld portable digital recorder featuring a pair of highly sensitive, built-in omnidirectional stereo microphones to capture the best sounds from various directions at an equal level, a stereo input, and one output. Tascam DR-05 is capable of delivering crisp clarity in 24-bit/96-kHz BWF as well as in 320 kbps MP3. Besides offering its notable performance, Tascam DR-05 comes with various additional features and capabilities that can help the user down the road, like some editing functions, EQ settings, chromatic tuner, and especially the variable speed playback that doesn’t affect the pitch of the audio. It comes with a USB 2.0 port, but, kind of unfortunately, does not offer wireless connectivity.
Which is exactly why Tascam DR-22WL is a very interesting alternative. The model is capable of recording voices at exactly the same level as Tascam DR-05, but it comes with built-in Wi-Fi for an ultra-easy interaction with your gadgets. It even has a free app that works with iPhone as well as Android for controlling the recorder remotely. Don’t worry, it still retains the USB 2.0 in case that we need to transfer something to a PC. However, you should acknowledge that it has cardioid mics, instead of omnidirectional mics, though the effect is not so bizzare because its mics are excellently sensitive, too. Also, its battery life is most likely not as long as Tascam DR-05’s due to the Wi-Fi, so be ready with some power source, either through the USB or the AC adapter.
