Yamaha CP40 Vs CP4

You may have been attracted to Yamaha CP4, the ultra premium digital piano from an already well-known manufacturer of musical instruments. Yamaha indeed makes exquisite products, ranging from the entry-level all the way to the higher-end. Yamaha CP4 is certainly coming from the higher-end class due to its price. Fortunately, Yamaha has released a variant of Yamaha CP4 named Yamaha CP40, which is 25% cheaper, but compensates a few features. So, which one possesses the better value for our money? Yamaha CP40 or Yamaha CP4?

Yamaha CP40 Vs CP4

No wonder that they are very identical to each other. However, the 88-key Graded Hammer (GH) keyboard of Yamaha CP40 is made of synthetic plastic. Meanwhile, Yamaha CP4 has Natural Wood Graded Hammer (NW-GH) keyboard. The core material of the white keys is real wood with synthetic ivory keytops. As the effect, Yamaha CP40 will provide you a more realistic, softer touch, similar to the feel of an acoustic grand piano. Professionals will appreciate the feels of Yamaha CP40’s keys more than Yamaha CP4. Furthermore, both models are powered by SCM and AWM2 sound engines with 128 maximum number of polyphony. However, Yamaha CP4 has more preset voices than Yamaha CP40 so that you can have more flexibility in usage.

Yamaha CP4 has more ports than Yamaha CP40, making it more versatile in connectivity to other devices. It has balanced XLR output jacks as an addition to the unbalanced output that is also present in Yamaha CP40. It has two jacks of foot controller, as opposed to one in Yamaha CP40. While most of the effects available on both models are the same, you should acknowledge that Yamaha CP4 has 5 bands of Master EQ. Yamaha CP40 compensates for a lower price by having only 3 bands of Master EQ. Last but not least, they have identical overall dimensions (well, Yamaha CP4 is taller by 0.1-inch), but Yamaha CP4 is a little bit heavier than Yamaha CP40 by about 2.5 lbs. Both models are still relatively compact, howsoever.

Decision
As you can see, Yamaha CP40 holds similar functionalities with Yamaha CP4. The compensations are only of the premium, opulent characteristics, i.e. the material of the keys, a few adjustments, and some extra connectivity. The audio performance of the two is fairly comparable. Thus, if you want to have Yamaha CP4 at a lower price, Yamaha CP40 is a viable choice!
