It turned out that both models are excellent, and both can be great choices under different circumstances and requirements. On the following article, we once again will compare two Squier Stratocaster guitars. This time, they are Squier Bullet and Squier Affinity. These two models represent the lower class, entry-level budget Stratocaster guitars. Squier Bullet is the cheapest variant. Add a little more bucks and you can get yourself Squier Affinity. Hence, the question arises: which one is better?
Unlike Squier Standard, which is full-sized, both Squier Bullet and Squier Affinity are smaller, thinner. However, the design of Squier Bullet is quite identical to Squier Affinity. Both are thin enough to be played comfortably by young beginners. However, the primary and perhaps the biggest difference between Squier Bullet and Squier Affinity is the body material. You should not be surprised to find out that Squier Bullet is constructed of basswood, considering its very affordable price. Basswood is generally considered as low-mid quality material for the body of a guitar, as the characteristic is flat and unpronounced. Basswood is also vulnerable, not so durable, so you should be very careful in taking care a basswood guitar. On the contrary, Squier Affinity has an alder body. Alder is a better wooden material for guitar because of its bright resonance. Alder is also more durable than basswood, though, this doesn’t mean that you are allowed to use it recklessly.
The next difference between these two Strat guitars is the pickguard design. Though you can have every basic feature of a Strat guitar from Squier Bullet, take note that it has a 1-ply pickguard. Squier Affinity has a 3-ply pickguard. Also, while Squier Bullet is only available in two variants (regular and HSS), Squier Affinity comes with various variants. There are event left-handed versions of Squier Affinity.
