If you are looking for a robust and reliable 15-Watt guitar amp, you may have put Marshall DSL15C and VOX AC15C1 on your consideration list. Both models are very popular choices on the market, and they are also being sold at roughly similar prices, though, more often than not, you may find that VOX AC15C1 is the one that is slightly pricier than Marshall DSL15C. So, which is the model that holds the best bang for the bucks?
Marshall DSL15C
Marshall DSL15C is a compact 15-Watt guitar amp combo that delivers exceptional performance and versatility. It is all-valve, powered by a pair of 6V6 power valves and three ECC83 tubes in the preamp. It is quite small, but packs astonishing power. It also features a deep switch for boosting the lower ends, and there is a switch on the rear panel for changing the power easily between 15-Watt and 7.5-Watt. It has several built-in modes and functions, including a digital reverb, though there is no tremolo effect. Marshall DSL15C is loaded with an individual 12” Celestine G12E speaker and supplied with a two-button footswitch for changing channel and reverb on/off. In terms of audio output quality, compared to VOX AC15C1, Marshall DSL15C has a warmer clean sound with a higher gain.

VOX AC15C1
VOX AC15C1 is also a 15-Watt guitar amp combo, but it is different that it is powered by a pair of EL84 power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes to drive the single 12” Celestion G12M Greenback speaker. In terms of appearance, VOX AC15C1 is indeed more attractive than Marshall DSL15C, as it features a distinctive VOX styling with golden-black mesh. VOX AC15C1 features two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. The Master Section features Master Volume and Tone Cut controls. Again, unlike Marshall DSL15C, VOX AC15C1 features spring reverb and tremolo effects, both are switchable via the optional VFS2A included. Both the spring reverb and tremolo effects work on both channels. VOX AC15C1 generates sparkly cleans with a little bit of chimes added, but has a lower gain than Marshall DSL15C.

Decision
In general, VOX AC15C1 makes a better choice for the richer features and relatively better cleans. If you want excellent cleans, then it is the way to go. In addition, the reverb and tremolo effects are superior. Yet, for heavy gain applications, Marshall DSL15C should be your choice.
