Design
Overall, Boss ME 25 and Zoom G3X indeed share similar sizes. They are roughly identical in dimensions and weights. They are pretty compact and easy to bring along. However, they have quite different user-interface. Boss ME 25 comes with three big footswitches and an expression pedal, along with nine backlit buttons and a large LEP panel. There are three control knobs for real-time editing over the drive, tone, and volume. Boss ME 25 comes with seven effect groups, each having ten different variations. Unfortunately, some users have stated that Boss ME 25 is slightly difficult and time-consuming to program. On the contrary, Zoom G3X comes with three small button-like footswitches and an expression pedal, too, but it features three backlit LCD screens that each stands for an individual footswitch. There are parameter knobs for each section, too, allowing you to have the fullest and easiest control ever.
Features
Both products are packed with features, for sure. However, Zoom G3X seems to provide more in-depth and extensive features and functions. It comes with a total of 116 effects and allows up to 6 simultaneous effects. There are built-in compressors, noise gates, equalizers, filters, phasers, chromatic tuner, and a 40-second looper. It boasts 100 memory locations for storing effect patches. On the other hand, Boss ME 25’s phase loop function can only record up to 38 seconds. Boss ME 25 only has 60 memory locations for effect patches. Nonetheless, Boss ME 25 has a slightly longer battery life, which is 9 hours (Zoom G3X’s battery life is 6 hours), but these models can also operate with AC adapters.
