Choosing for the right guitar amp is no easy task. From the simplest question of “Combo or cabinet?” to the more tricky ones like “Which size?” and “Which model?” There are quite a number of considerations. Moreover, a guitar amp is usually nothing cheap. There are of course budget choices, but still, you need to invest some considerable bucks. Thus, choosing for the right guitar amp should be done carefully.
Fender is a brand known worldwide for producing quality guitars and guitar equipment. Apparently, you have heard quite some about Fender’s Hot Rod guitar amps, and narrowed your options to Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Fender Hot Rod DeVille. Now, we will take a look on each model to determine which is best for you.
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is a 40-Watt combo guitar amplifier. With such power, it is sufficient for indoor performances, small gigs, and of course practices. It is a 1×12-inch format. It is armed with a Celestion G12P-80 speaker that is quite compact and lightweight, providing an enhanced portability. However, it has great rock tones. Its clean and overdriven tones are especially fantastic, thanks to the luscious Fender spring reverb. It is also famous for its low-end headroom provided by the 6L6 tubes and the versatile 12AX7 preamp tubes. It is quite considerably more affordable than Fender Hot Rod DeVille.
Fender Hot Rod DeVille
On the other hand, Fender Hot Rod DeVille is typically more expensive than Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It is a 60-Watt combo guitar amp. However, it is available in two sizes: 2×12-inches and 4×10-inches. Either way, due to the higher power and extra speakers, Fender Hot Rod DeVille can deliver louder sounds. The output quality is also slightly fuller and more solid. Fender Hot Rod DeVille can work well even in a very large room. However, the sonic characteristics are pretty similar to Fender Hot Rod Deluxe’s; it has excellent rock tones, and the clean and overdriven tones are superb. No wonder – Fender Hot Rod DeVille also uses 6L6 tubes, 12AX7 preamps, and Celestion G12P-80 speakers.

Decision
In general, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and Fender Hot Rod DeVille are very identical; it is just the former having a lower power while the latter having a higher power. For most cases, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe makes the fullest bang out of your money. The Deluxe offers exceptional performance and output quality already, suitable for even large rooms. The DeVille tends to be an overkill, unless you are aware that you indeed need the extra power.
