Gibson SG has always been a particularly famous electric guitar model. It is used by many professionals and experts. However, it is priced at a considerable price point. This fact has caused people, especially beginners, to search for a more affordable alternative. Epiphone EB-3 is one notable choice. Available at a much lower price, Epiphone EB-3 actually offers various attractive specs and features. So, does Epiphone EB-3 make an even better bang for the bucks? Or, is Gibson SG always the best? Let’s find out below!
Epiphone EB-3
Epiphone EB-3 comes with a mahogany body and a mahogany set neck featuring a slimtaper “D” profile. The fingerboard is made of rosewood, equipped with classic trapezoid inlays. Epiphone EB-3 features a 34” scale length, and the total size of the body is a little bit smaller compared to Gibson SG. This is great especially for people with smaller physicality. Thanks to the excellent mahogany quality, Epiphone EB-3 sounds decent. The model is interestingly armed with high-quality chrome hardware, which is very rugged and durable. On Epiphone EB-3, you can find a Sidewinder Humbucker pickup in the neck and an NYT bass mini humbucker pickup in the bridge.
Gibson SG
On the other hand, the luxurious Gibson SG is constructed of a solid mahogany body which is finished with nitrocellulose, creating such a shiny and premium looks on the surface. It features a ‘60s slim profile neck and the bound 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with traditional trapezoid inlays. The sound quality is reasonably more superior compared to the one of Epiphone EB-3, bringing more solid and fuller notes, but the difference is somewhat marginal. However, despite the superb audio quality, Gibson SG tends to have hardware issues, since the hardware is not exactly nuclear-proof. The hardware is relatively easy to break, especially after some years of usage. Gibson SG is equipped with a pair of ’57 Classic humbucking pickups in the neck and the bridge, featuring the Genuine TunePros vintage-style tuners. Take a look: Epiphone SG Vs Gibson SG.
