Design and Audio Qualities
In many ways, Yamaha APX500 and Yamaha CPX500 are indeed similar to each other. They both are constructed from the same materials. Each of them features a Spruce top, while the rest of the body is made of Nato wood. Meanwhile, the fingerboard and bridge are made of none other than Rosewood for the best touch and feel. Even so, Yamaha CPX500 is actually bigger than Yamaha APX500. This is because Yamaha CPX500 has been designed to have a jumbo-style body, whereas Yamaha APX500 features a thin-line body shape. As the effect, Yamaha CPX500 is able to deliver bigger and fuller sounds. It projects the sound better and more accurately. The audio reproduction is also warmer. On the other hand, however, Yamaha APX500’s smaller and more compact form factor obviously allows for easier handling.

Additionally, Yamaha APX500 is available in five colors: old violin sunburst, dark red burst, black, oriental blue burst, and natural. On the other hand, Yamaha CPX500 comes with four finishes: natural, black, old violin sunburst, and dark red burst. The oriental blue burst choice has been omitted.

Features
Other than the different designs and output characteristics, there aren’t any real difference between these two models. Yamaha APX500 and Yamaha CPX500 actually sound great, but they both can also be plugged into an amp if you wish for louder volume levels. For recording purposes, you can plug them into an audio interface. Both Yamaha APX500 and Yamaha CPX500 feature the System 55T pre-amp, which includes a three-band equalizer and the TM-29-T die-cast chromatic tuner. You can use the tuner without using a cable connection, so it is very handy. On the side of the guitar, you can find a one-way saddle-mounted piezo pickup component.
