Well, since the two are basically crafted from the same base design, Taylor 214ce and Taylor 214ce DLX obviously have lots in common. They are of the exact same size and weight. Both have 25 1/2″ scale length and 1 11/16” nut width. Both models are also made of the same materials. They both feature Sitka Spruce tops with layered Rosewood backs and sides. As the effect, they sound quite similar to each other, especially when unplugged. And, truth to be told, they truly sound great. The distinctive warmth and superb projection make unmatched tonal qualities. They also come with Mahogany necks and Ebony bridge and fingerboards. Both Taylor 214ce and Taylor 214ce DLX sport TUSQ saddles with closed-back chrome tuners. The bracing pattern is Taylor Standard II Bracing, which is identical to forward-shifted X-bracing.
The Differences
So, what are the differences? The first difference that you can immediately notice upon seeing the two products side by side is the finish. Whereas Taylor 214ce only has gloss finish only on the top, Taylor 214ce DLX’s whole body has gloss finish. The all-gloss finish makes it appear premium and elegant, and also helps to provide some degree of surface protection. The next difference that may not be immediately apparent, yet extremely important, is the pickup system. Taylor 214ce comes with the Expression System-T pickup. On the other hand, Taylor 214ce DLX features the all-new Expression System 2 pickup, which greatly improves the audio quality when plugged. Decision
If you need to play your guitar plugged, and you often go around with it, then you should choose Taylor 214ce DLX. The improved pickup system is very impressive, and the hard shell case gives the best protection. Otherwise, though, you can choose Taylor 214ce, which is a little bit cheaper.
