Design
First, we are going to compare the designs of these two guitars. Both are semi-hollow electric guitars, and they are roughly of the same size. Epiphone Wildkat is a little bit heavier than Epiphone 339, but the weight difference is not very significant. Both models come with the 24.75” scale length, 1.68” nut width, 12” fingerboard radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. However, you may have notice that Epiphone Wildkat comes with a single cutaway whereas Epiphone 339 features a double-cutaway body. They also use different body materials. Epiphone Wildkat has a Mahogany body with a Maple top and a glued-in Maple neck. The fingerboard is certainly made of none other than Rosewood. On the other hand, Epiphone 339 comes with a laminated Maple body with a solid center block and a glued-in Mahogany neck. While solid woods are great for acoustic guitars, laminated woods are usually better for electric models, giving the much-needed ruggedness and durability as well as a neutral platform that allows the electronics to perform.
Electronics
The fundamental difference between Epiphone Wildkat and Epiphone 339 is the electronics that they use. Epiphone Wildkat is coming with the P-90R Dogear Classics pickup, featuring one master volume, two pickup volume, and one tone controls. In addition, Epiphone Wildkat is equipped with the Bigsby B70 Vibrato tailpiece, which has been proven to be very handy in certain situations. It is a great rockabilly guitar. Decision
Both guitars are great guitars. In general, Epiphone Wildkat makes an excellent value, as it is coming with P-90 and Bigsby. Nevertheless, you can choose Epiphone 339 if you want something a little bit more versatile.
