Design and Features
Designed by Eddie Van Halen, EVH 5150 III is actually a new model from the EVH 5150 series that has been made not to sound like the original 5150 model. Instead, it resembles the Soldano SLO more. That’s why there are different characteristics here. Even from the look alone, you can already tell that EVH 5150 III is incredibly strong and rugged. As you can see, the housing features a textured vinyl covering that protects against scratches, and the striped metal grille looks nice and elegant. EVH 5150 III is a 50-Watt amp head armed with two 6L6 output tubes and six 12AX7 preamp tubes. You can select the impedance level to be 4, 8, or 16 ohms. There are three channels available. There is a master presence control. The controls for gain, EQ, and volume of Channel 1 and 2 are combined, whereas Channel 3 has dedicated controls.
On the other hand, Peavey 6505 is a 120W amp head with four 6L6 and five 12AX7 tubes. There are two input channels, one with normal gain and the other with high gain. There are controls for EQ, rhythm, lead, resonance, and presence.
Performance
In terms of practicality, EVH 5150 III proves to be easier and more flexible to use, thanks to the three footswitchable channels. You can set different settings on Channel 1/2 and Channel 3. This model is simply much more versatile. In addition, EVH 5150 III has much better cleans and a slightly better solo tone than Peavey 6505. On the other hand, though, Peavey 6505 can be much louder when needed.

Decision
EVH 5150 III is generally more recommended because it is much more versatile. The cleans and solo tone are also better. But Peavey 6505 can be a good alternative if you need something more affordable.
