Scheter is a brand of guitar that has become incredibly famous over the last few years. The company has been successful in establishing their name and building a good reputation as a guitar maker that produces quality instruments at affordable price points. If you are not familiar with Scheter guitars yet, you would be surprised to see the great features and appointments that they put on their guitars; the things that you wouldn’t expect to meet at certain price points. Now, we are going to take a look at Schecter Omen 6. Even among the other siblings in the line-up, Schecter Omen 6 is more of the budget-friendly option. Does it live up to the company’s reputation? How does it stand against the other electric guitars in the price range? See below!
Design and Quality
If you are looking for an inexpensive electric guitar that you can detune and perhaps beat up a little without worrying too much, Schecter Omen 6 is the answer. It is a good-looking electric guitar that sounds decent and stays in tune and quite rugged and durable. Of course, it cannot be compared to the more expensive Scheter models, as it still has a few weaknesses, but it can easily blow away all the other contenders in the sub-three hundred bucks price range.
Schecter Omen 6 is available in three color choices: black, vintage white, and walnut satin. Everybody loves the Scheter “C” body style that this guitar sports. The body is made from basswood, which is a thick, resonant wood that is great for the hard rock and metal genres. It has a similar resonance to a mahogany guitar, but not the same clarity. A bolt-on maple neck pairs very well with the basswood body. Maple is a bright tone wood and the bolt-on neck adds some snappiness to the guitar. Though bolt-on necks do not sustain as good as set necks, don’t worry about the durability. Schecter Omen 6 is built like a rock, thanks to the string-through body – which is also a rare feature in the price range.
Sound
Schecter Omen 6 is clearly geared towards rock music. The bridge and neck pickups are quite hot. The pickups tend to get muddy at high-gain settings. Depending on your style, that might be alright. That is not a problem if you tune down one or two steps. The bridge pickup is heavy and crunchy, making the overall sound to be thick. Meanwhile, the neck pickup is great for soling and clean playing. The electronics are straightforward. Besides the two pickups, there is a volume knob, a tone knob, and a three-way switch.
Schecter Omen 6 has great playability. The 24-fret rosewood fingerboard is definitely fast and solid. One great thing about this electric guitar is that the setup and tuning remain very solid despite note bending and aggressive playing.
All in all, Schecter Omen 6 is an excellent entry-level electric guitar. It is a very good value for the money and an excellent starting point for beginners. It is solid and durable. It is even usable for playing in a band, though you may want to replace the pickups first for slightly more clarity.
