Yamaha PSR E253 and Casio CTK 2400 are two portable keyboards available in a similar price range. Both are suitable for beginners, and they both often get compared against each other. Well, since you only have ten fingers, you will only play up to ten notes at the same time – twenty notes if you are using a dual/layered voice. So, for most cases, both of these two keyboards are good. Then again, if you are going to use a sustain pedal to hold the notes while playing, or if you are going to play along to the keyboard’s styles, the polyphony becomes a thing to consider.
In terms of sound quality, both Yamaha PSR E253 vs Casio CTK 2400 are generally good. Yamaha PSR E253 has a better edge here because the sound is indeed better, thanks to the great AWM sound engine. On the other hand, Casio CTK 2400 sounds a lot brighter.

In general, Casio CTK 2400 is more recommended because it comes with piano-style keys, better polyphony, USB/MIDI, and a recorder that you can use to make your own sound samples. The sound is good, although not as great as Yamaha PSR E253. On the other hand, Yamaha PSR E253 does have a good sound, but the features are too limited.
